Final Days at Swiftcurrent

 9/13/21

Today I began to plan out what I would need for the next few days, clothing wise, so that I could do laundry. I also cleaned out my sink using a pumice stone and was able to get out most of the stains from when we tie-died. The rest of the day was spent playing board games with whoever was left. We played a lot of One-Night Werewolf and Secret Hitler. It was a relaxing but bitter sweet night knowing that this would be one of the last times that we would all be able to hangout and play games together.

This morning I went on a hike with my friends from Kentucky. They were visiting family, my location manager, and I was free so they asked if I would join them on a hike. We had decided to go to Shangri La since it is the fun way to go to Iceberg Lake. Below are some of the photos I took.

The beginning of the hike, I came to the valley when the plants were still in winter and now am leaving when they are dying again.

There are quite a few valleys in the midst of Many Glacier Valley. The one to the right leads to Swiftcurrent Pass, the second one leads to Grinnell Glacier, and the 3rd one leads to Cracker Lake.

Zach is in the lower left corner of the photo and is in the midst of squeezing up a crack we climbed on the way up.

A beautiful waterfall near Shangri La lake.

A miners claim stone placed to mark the land he had. His initials are BHS and I think it says 10500 below the initials.

Making our way to the scree field to slide down the mountain side.

When we got back it was more board games for the evening and then we watched The Village, Signs, and Tucker and Dale vs Evil. A late night but fun movies with the people left.

A large amount of the remaining people, around 6, left today for the season. I finished cleaning as much as I could and then spent the rest of the day packing my van. We had a huge game of Uno Dare. You play regular Uno but when there is a draw card you can draw the cards or do a dare on a colored list. Some involved balancing cards on your head or shoulders while others involved hopping like a rabbit until your next turn or speaking in an accent. It was a fun adaptation to the normal game I am used to playing. We then watched Sherlock Holmes, the Robert Downey Jr. version, and then all went to bed.

Today a group of 8 of us went on a final hike in Glacier National Park Siyeh Pass. We drove 3 cars to be able to fit everyone and to have enough cars to drop drivers off further up the Going-to-the-Sun Road. The pictures below depict our hike.

After the hike we tried to go to Frog's Cantina but they were already closed so we ended up ordering pizza instead. It took about 40 minutes for the pizza to be made. We all sat in the sun in the parking lot trying to stay warm because of the wind. On our drive back we saw a bear behind the check-in station and then we saw a mama grizzly and 3 cubs up on a hill. In one day we saw 7 bears! We finished off the evening with a movie and the final packing of vehicles.

P.S. There have been a bunch of guests asking for bathrooms even though the entire motor inn is covered in boarded up windows and doors.

"Oh, Amos! That's my nickname!" - a guest talking to Amos

"What's your real name?" - Amos

"Amy" - the same guest

A Van, Bed, and Wedding

With every great story there comes a space of waiting for the next event to occur. From the day of graduation there has been much preparation for my trek out to Montana. My mother recommended using my current twin bed frame as a base for the bed in the van and, as usual, she was right. My modifications involved cutting the support boards and attaching hinges to make the middle areas accessible.       A friends wedding was the last event I had planned before heading on my way. A quick overnight trip to the Red River Gorge for the bachelor party was filled with laughter, jokes, and stories. There was a cut finger, failed beer can shotgunning attempt, some vomit, and many interesting morning exits from the tents.      The wedding day flew by faster than any of us could have predicted. The weather was perfect, the people were amazing, and the dancing, per usual, was my favorite part. The rest of the weekend was taken as rest so that I would...
